Daniel is to be cast as a 60 -70 year old?
Louis DPDL is now to be black, not white French, and the owner of brothels rather than two plantations?
And I thought the QOTD film was absurd....
Wouldn't it be better for the author(s) to come up with their own characters, (oh, the irony, seeing as they clearly have done so...), and their own fictional backdrop rather than borrow so much yet change so much. Why not go the whole hog and re-write Mickey Mouse as a karate-kicking kangaroo?
You're welcome to disagree, of course.

Date: Thursday, May 27th, 2021 08:35 pm (UTC)I'm fine with Louis as a black man, that works for me. But why is the honorable Louis now to be the owner of brothels rather than a plantation, as he was in the book. This makes no sense.
And not sure why they're making Daniel older. To what purpose?
Wonder how Anne Rice feels about this.

Date: Friday, May 28th, 2021 06:50 pm (UTC)Daniel's details bewilder me, frankly. As you write, to what purpose! And this ignores the established plotline of Armand turning Daniel while Daniel's still 30-ish (?).

Date: Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 03:05 pm (UTC)Well I know now that it s been years. Also I noticed you enjoyed season 1. But your first observations are still valid. At least for me. I still agree with your initial post.
Why borrow when you plan on making so many changes?
I feel so many mixed feelings about this show. Yes I like some aspects but it doesn't feel like the VC to me. Like Mumsisdaughter said once, more like another fanfiction.
So I really appreciate your original post, because these changes, and there are more to come (enter season 2) do not sit well with me.

Date: Wednesday, March 27th, 2024 09:31 pm (UTC)I really enjoyed all the books. I had a great time reading the last book. I was happy that Lestat put Louis in the centre stage. Some characters and storylines weren't my cup of tea but I still enjoyed the novels in their whole. Personally I was very glad that Lestat and Louis got to be a couple, officially. Though I wish she had described more romantic scenes btwn them. For instance why doesn't Lestat share a bedroom with Louis? Why does he sleep in his chamber or a crypt?
So I did what Lestat had told us to do, I read between the lines. I guess they were private about their romantic relationship.
